2012 QUILT SERIES
We are happy to announce a series of classes that will inspire new quilters and challenge seasoned quilters with a variety of projects. Many of our customers have asked about a Beginning Quilting class—a chance for them to learn the basics of quilting. That got us to thinking about a “quilt project of the month” rather than doing another “block of the month” program. In each class, Jeanne and Linda will be teaching a particular quilting technique, including such things as paper piecing, Cotton Theory construction, appliqués, free motion quilting, and binding. Here’s what we have planned:!
THE BASICS OF QUILTING. This class is for those who want to learn what quilting is all about. Jeanne will teach you to measure and cut fabric using a rotary cutter and ruler and to stitch perfect ¼” seams while making a small 9-patch quilt.

Dates:
Thursday, Jan. 5

9 am – 2 pm*

Saturday, Jan. 7
9 am – 2 pm*
Class Fee:
$35 + fabric (pattern provided)
*Lunch optional ($5)
STRIP PLACEMATS. You will cut various size strips of fabrics to make a set of placemats. Once the tops are made, you will sandwich them with batting and backing. Then the placemats will be quilted using the “stitch in the ditch” method. Jeanne will also teach you her quilt binding technique—something you will use over and over again!
Dates:
Thursday, Feb. 2

9 am – 2 pm*

Saturday, Feb. 4

9 am – 2 pm*
Class Fee; $35 + fabric (pattern provided)
*Lunch optional ($5)
BORDER PRINTED TABLE RUNNER. Linda will teach you to “fussy cut” fabric with a 60 degree triangle ruler to make this eye-catching table runner. It takes advantage of those beautiful border printed fabrics everyone loves, but can’t decide what to make with them. We’ve answered that question with this cute pattern! You will sharpen your machine quilting and binding skills in this class, too.
Dates:

CHURN DASH QUILT. In this class, you will learn to make half-square triangles using “Thangles” to construct your churn dash blocks. Then add your sashing with cornerstones to separate the blocks. Depending on the fabrics chosen, this quilt is the perfect size for a throw or large baby quilt.
