Stitcher's Playhouse - Where Sewing is FUN!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
by Ann Barnett on 01/02/12
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Our time off was spent reorganizing the upstairs fabric storage area, cleaning out clutter, and doing a little painting. We could have done more painting, but ran out of time! We are excited about our “minkee” classes this month since it looks like cold weather is on the way. Each time the UPS truck arrives, we get excited about all the spring fabrics being delivered. If you visit the shop this month, you’ll see that some of them have already made an appearance on the shelves. We just couldn’t resist thinking about spring! In fact, I’m sewing today on a fun new pattern from Bonnie Blue called “Malina”. There’s also another new one called “Lizzy” that is also cute. It was hard to decide which one to make. But I’m using some of our new
NEED LAST MINUTE CHRISTMAS IDEAS???
by Ann Barnett on 12/05/11The older I get, the more I dislike shopping. So I get excited when something comes along that can be made quickly and provides that perfect Christmas gift. You only need 12 inches to make this fun scarf that is perfect for your child's teacher, a family member, or for you! We have many fabrics for you choose from to personalize your gift-giving!
DEMO DAY WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!
by Ann Barnett on 11/28/11
A big thank you to everyone who visited the shop on Saturday for our first ever Demo Day! Jeanne was in her element as she showed how to make some fun and easy Christmas gifts. We loved sharing and hope everyone went home inspired to do some Christmas sewing. If you did not get to come, visit the shop and we will be happy to show you what you missed! You will also enjoy touching and feeling all the new soft minkee fabrics now in stock. We have made everything from coats to vests to scarves to blankets and quilts using this wonderful winter fabric. Be sure to check out the January Class Schedule if you are interested in learning how to sew with these wonderful fabrics. It will be posted on the website by December 5.
Our heads are still spinning!
by Ann Barnett on 11/13/11
Jeanne and I recently spent 5 days in Houston at the International Quilt Market. This was our third trip, so we knew what to expect. But being surrounded by our favorite fabric and pattern designers was energizing. We found lots of fabrics we can't wait to showcase in the shop. There's just one problem. We know as soon as they arrive, we'll want to put them on the shelves. So we're having a blow-out Christmas sale to make room.
Beginning Tuesday, November 15, all of our Christmas prints and assorted knits and flannels will be on sale at 50% off. We hope this is incentive for you to get those holiday projects done NOW. The sale will end on Saturday, November 26.
Also on Saturday, November 26, you are invited to DEMO DAY at Stitcher's Playhouse. We found so many cute ideas for Christmas gifts at Market, we just couldn't wait to share. Stay tuned for more details!

Summer Sale!
by Ann Barnett on 06/30/11
Where did the month of June go??? I can’t believe we’re already celebrating the Fourth of July. At Stitcher’s Playhouse, we are getting ready for the August to December classes. Many of you have expressed interest in a variety of projects, and we’re working hard to include those in our schedule.
Of course, nothing gets us in the mood for fall more than having our UPS guy deliver all those wonderful fabrics we ordered six months ago! It’s like Christmas every time we open a box. Jeanne, Linda, Julie, Carey and I have been busy making samples to hopefully get your creative juices going for back to school, fall, Halloween and Christmas projects.
With all the new fabrics coming in, we need to make more room in the shop. SO, WE’RE HAVING A
Do you have time to take a class??? We still have openings in Jeanne’s Quilted Tote Bag Class on Thursday, July 7th. And the next series of Beginning Sewing has openings in the morning class (9:30 am to 12 noon) which begins on Tuesday, July 12th, and runs the 19th and 26th. Call the shop (355-1309) if you’re interested in these classes!

Check out our summer classes!
by Ann Barnett on 04/18/11
Can you believe it’s almost summer? We are excited about the classes coming up at Stitcher’s Playhouse and hope you find something of interest. Photos of class projects as well as all the details can be found on our website: www.stitchersplayhouse.com.
May kicks off with Beginning Sewing. This is always a popular class, and we have been able to put sessions on the calendar for May, July, and August. Be sure to sign up right away if you’re interested! We love the new Michael Miller knits and have had fun making all kinds of outfits. Linda is THE expert on sewing with knits. Check out her Girl’s Knit Pajama Class. The Kwik Sew pattern Linda selected is perfect for summer pajamas. If you own a serger and would like to learn more about it, Linda will be teaching her popular Make Friends With Your Serger Class. Now that summer is becoming a reality, we had to do several “beachie” projects for those vacation trips. Everyone can use a great beach bag. Linda has taken a large bag pattern by Izzy & Ivey, paired it with pet screen and laminated fabrics, and made a knock-out summer tote! Hooray for the Red, White & Blue is another rite of summer. What’s more fun than making patriotic outfits to celebrate July 4th! We chose a giant red and white gingham check cotton for the girl’s jumper and boy’s romper. Adding a navy sailboat appliqué to the garments makes them wearable all summer! This is a great time to learn how to smock. It’s such a portable hobby that you can pack it in your beach bag or carry-on luggage and smock while you travel! Jeanne has selected an adorable Michie pattern that utilizes a smocked insert for your choice of a girl’s sundress or boy’s bubble. Then later in the month there’s a construction class if you need help putting your outfit together. If you haven’t seen the book, Little Girls, Big Style by Mary Abreu, be sure to give it a look. It contains four easy patterns that can be used to make 23 garments. We love all of them! So we have added three classes to the summer calendar so you can sample these wonderful outfits. Even better, you’ll learn under the creative eye of Carey Haney who will be teaching the classes. Our favorite sewing notion as most of you already know is elastic thread. It’s used in the bobbin and makes so many sewing tasks easier. Jeanne will be teaching all about “shirring” with her Ruthie’s Romper class. You’ll be amazed! If you’re looking for a sundress that’s perfect for older girls, check out Linda’s Tiered Sundress. She selected a Kwik Sew pattern that is also available in smaller sizes. We have two other bag classes planned. Mary will repeat her popular Duffle Bag Class while Jeanne will teach a quick and easy Quilted Tote Bag. Check out the samples and make one or both. You’ll get a jump on those Christmas gifts! And looking ahead to Christmas, Jeanne will be teaching her “Fold and Finish” Table Runner. It makes a perfect seasonal table decoration when you use fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas fabrics. Here’s hoping you have a relaxing and carefree summer with a little sewing added for good measure! Ann
Waiting for spring!
by Ann Barnett on 02/10/11Are you as tired of the cold weather and snow as we are??? The weatherman says warmer temperatures are on the way. Can't wait! We hope you had a chance to see the Art Gallery Trunk Show at Stitcher's Playhouse during the month of January. I have just packed it up and will be returning it to sunny south Florida where Art Gallery Fabrics is headquartered. Back to Easter and warmer weather . . . . we have several classes still open for making coordinated brother/sister outfits for Easter. Julie's "Hillary" dress and Linda's matching "Pants & Vest", are two of the cutest outfits we've seen. The yoke of the Hillary dress is perfect for monogramming or hand embroidery. Jeanne will be teaching Trudy Horne's (Collars, Etc.) yoke dress where you'll learn to do puff sleeves and a beautiful portrait collar. Add monogramming or decoration to the collar for a one-of-a-kind dress. Check the class listing on our website for dates and times of these classes.
January is Art Gallery month.
by Ann Barnett on 12/27/10
When you visit the shop during the month of January, you will see a large display of Art Gallery fabrics and samples made from the new "PARADISE" line. These are the same fabrics Jeanne and Linda are using in our new Block of the Month Program which kicks off on the fourth Sunday in January. If you have never paper pieced before, you are in for a treat. For anyone who needs instruction on paper piecing, we have scheduled "How To" classes on Thursday, January 20th; Saturday, January 22nd and Sunday, January 23rd. You will come for one hour and we will have sewing machines set up so there will be no need to bring yours. You do need to call the shop to schedule your instruction time.
As part of our celebration of Art Gallery fabrics at Stitcher's Playhouse, we are giving away door prizes. Each time you visit the shop in January, you can register for our drawing which will be held on Sunday, January 23rd during our first Quilt Sunday. (Three names will be drawn and you do not have to be present to win). Pat Bravo, who with her husband, Walter, is the creative fource behind Art Gallery Fabrics. She has come up with "Grab & Sew" kits for three of her wonderful purses. These kits include everything you need to make each purse - the pattern, thread, sippers, cording, fabric, decorative trims, etc.
With every UPS delivery, we get excited all over again about the fabrics we ordered on our Houston market trip! We are busy making new samples and hope you will be as excited as we are about sewing for spring!
Happy Sewing! Ann
