Welcome to Stitcher's Playhouse---a place where sewing is
fun! Our fabrics have been carefully selected to please every taste and budget. You will love our poly-cottons and fun fabrics as well as our pima cottons in coordinating prints, stripes, solids, and florals. Pastel batistes, Japanese lawns, and Swiss nelonas are a few of our many heirloom fabrics. We couldn't forget those wonderful piques and soft "Sea Island" knits that are so perfect for baby items. You will also find an assortment of wonderful baby gifts that can be customized using our in-house embroidery service. Our love of sewing and teaching other people to sew is what excites us most about Stitcher's Playhouse. We have planned a variety of classes from beginning sewing and beginning smocking to those wonderful techniques like shadow embroidery and madeira appliqué. You will see several quilting and home decor classes where you can make one-of-a-kind gifts or items for your home. Several all-day classes are planned so you are sure to go home with a finished project! We are taking reservations NOW for all classes, so call the shop (355-1309) and give us your preferences as soon as possible. Many of these classes are sure to fill quickly! In addition to fabrics and classes, we offer a variety of patterns, smocking plates, sewing books and magazines, novelty trims, laces, and buttons. Bring a friend and plan to get excited about what's going on at Stitcher's Playhouse! We look forward to seeing you! Ann Barnett & Jeanne Phipps |

Where sewing is fun! January 2010 |
|
We’re excited about the new classes being offered beginning in January! Our favorites are back, including Beginning Sewing, Beginning Smocking, and Bishop Construction. We found so many adorable patterns on our October trip to Houston that we could hardly find enough dates on the calendar to teach them! What fun to meet the designers of these wonderful patterns and fabrics: Patty Young with ModKids, Sandi Henderson with Portabellopixie, Lila Tueller of Tula Pink fame, and Pat Bravo with Art Gallery. We also met Anna Maria Horner, Amy Butler and Heather Bailey who do wonderful designs under their own labels. A lot of the patterns are already in stock, but we are waiting patiently for many of the fabrics to arrive. Winter is the perfect time for our favorite soft pile fabric we call “minkee”. Shannon Fabrics has the most marvelous colors and patterns of this yummy fabric, and we fell in love with a beautiful quilt they had on display in Houston. It uses the “sew and flip” technique you will enjoy learning. Another technique Jeanne will be teaching is “ragging”. You can make a rag quilt or child’s jacket using this raw seam technique. In response to many requests, we are beginning a Block of the Month Quilt Club in January. The shop will be open the 4th Sunday of each month for you to come and pick up your block and get any instruction you need to complete it. More details are provided in the class listing. As our thoughts turn to spring and Easter, we have selected adult and children’s garments we |
believe will chase away the winter blahs! Linda has a cute Girl’s Gored Skirt and Sweatshirt Jacket that can be made from matching fabrics. Or pick the Bubble Dress to go with the jacket. Heirloom outfits are often made from dupioni silk—a fabric we haven’t previously stocked. But get ready to say “WOW”! We picked three of the hottest colors for spring—lime green, bright turquoise, and fuchsia—to make outfits for Easter. Choose a 2-piece ensemble using the ModKids pattern “Nina” or a full-bodice smocked dress from AS&E Magazine. Don’t think we’ve forgotten the adults. There are two tunic tops we will be teaching that would be beautiful in silk. One is by Kwik Sew and the other is Amy Butler’s new “Liverpool” tunic. Jeanne will repeat her Heirloom Baby Day- gown Class, and there will be a “how to” class on Silk Ribbon Embroidery. As usual, we have a great selection of purses and bags for you to make. Check out Tula Pink’s Snazzy Bag made from gathered fabric strips. It even matches the adult “Honey Bun” Jacket that would be perfect for Easter. We love all things “baby”. Linda will be teaching how to make those beautiful decorator bumper pads for baby beds. Another class shows you how simple it is to make crib sheets. Be sure to check out the dates for THE GREAT ESCAPE. That’s what we’re calling our Sit & Sew times. It’s your chance to get away from all distractions and have a fun day of sewing! See you soon!
