BEGINNING SEWING (Child’s Garment). By far, this is our most popular class! Jeanne will teach the basics of sewing while you make a girl’s jumper or boy’s romper. The 3-session class will include getting to know your sewing machine, pattern preparation, cutting out the fabric, and constructing your garment. You will also learn several other techniques, including adding an appliqué to your garment. If you do not have a sewing machine, one will be provided. (Jumper: sizes 1 to 8; Romper: sizes 3 mo. to 4)

HOORAY FOR THE RED, WHITE & BLUE. We always enjoy coming up with something fun for that favorite summer holiday, July 4th. The “Holly and Hunter” pattern by Bonnie Blue is perfect for matching brother/sister outfits (sizes 6 mo. to 6). We used Michael Miller’s jumbo red gingham check for the girl’s jumper and boy’s romper. By adding a simple sailboat appliqué in navy blue, we made this outfit perfect for all summer! If you have never tried appliqué, Jeanne will show you how quick and easy it can be.

MAKE FRIENDS WITH YOUR SERGER. This series of three classes will make you love your serger again! In the first class, Linda will have you threading your machine with confidence and becoming familiar with a variety of stitches. In the second class, you will construct a pair of shorts or leggings as you learn to maintain seam allowances and serge curved seams. In the final class, you will learn the popular 3-thread rolled hem as you make napkins or finish ruffles for a garment. You will need to be sure your machine is designed for this! Take one class or all three. We promise you will love your serger after taking these classes!

BEGINNING SMOCKING. Jeanne doesn’t usually teach this class in the summer, but we found the cutest pattern by Michie Mooney (Creations by Michie) that is the perfect summer outfit. The pattern has both a boy/girl bubble and girl’s sundress in sizes 3 mo. to 24 mo. A second pattern takes the sundress from size 2 to 6 if you need a larger garment. The smocking is done on an insert that is added to the garment during construction. This is a great opportunity to learn how to construct a garment with a smocked insert. It’s quick and easy and gives you lots of options for girl and boy outfits. Select your project and fabric before class so Jeanne can have your insert prepped and ready for you to smock in this 2-session class! Later in June, Jeanne will have a construction class for those needing help finishing their garment.

LITTLE GIRLS, BIG STYLE. We fell in love with this book the first time we saw it. For those just learning to sew, it’s a wonderful tool for feeding your creativity. The book contains four patterns (dress, skirt, pants, and top) that can be mixed, matched, and modified to make 23 outfits! Carey Haney is our resident expert on these outfits, and she’s agreed to teach three classes this summer. Note that two of them (pants/peasant top and sundress) are all-day classes while the skirt is being taught in a 2-1/2-hour night class.
